Jim has been enthusiastic about art since his preschool days. He has great respect for and awe of the old masters, especially Sandro Botticelli, Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Albrecht Dürer, and the later masters Frederic Remington, Edouard Manet and Gustav Klimt.

Education. Associate of Science, Cuyahoga Community College. Bachelor of Arts, Capital University -- case work at Baldwin Wallace College. Completed Police Executive Leadership College at OSU. Case work at Baldwin Wallace College and USF.

Career Highlights. Jim Weiss is a former Army infantryman, school-trained combat engineer, and a school-trained military policeman (assigned to city patrol duties in the former West Germany). He is a retired lieutenant from the Brook Park, OH, Police Department, and has been a state of Florida investigator. As a writer, he is a frequent contributor to a number of national safety forces magazines: LAW and ORDER, Tactical Response, EMS, Police Fleet Manager, The Police Marksman, Counter Terrorism, Knives Illustrated, The Florida Trooper and others. He works in a writing partnership with Mickey Davis, and in addition to writing for trade magazines and taking the accompanying photographs – and occasional cover photos -- they write for magazines available on the newsstands. Art Background. Three years of high school art and three years of drafting. Four college/university art courses. His art work has shown at Cuyahoga Community College (1970s); Lakeside, OH, Hoover Auditorium’s annual art show and the judged and a juried Pastel Society of Tampa Bay’s show, and an art show conducted The Pasco Arts Council. He is a past member of the Sacripante Art Society and an art group that pays for live models to do portraits of every Friday afternoon in Elfers, FL. He is a member of the Dunedin Fine Art Center, where so far has taken four colored pencil classes and two pen & ink work shop and two pastel classes; he received a merit award -- Member Exhibition 2009. He is a present member of the Tarpon Springs Art Society and has been awarded honorable mentions 2nd, 3rd, place award ribbons and cash prizes; as a member of the West Pasco Art Guild, he received honorable mentions and one second place ribbons. In a TESA art show he received a Best On The Wall Award, 2110. Ongoing private lessons with pastel artist Karen Baker. He has shown in a number of Tampa Bay art shows.
